About Me

meI’m a reader, a thinker, an audiophile, a blogger, an aesthete, a ponderer, a pedestrian, a technophile, and a veterinarian. I love music, tea, golden retrievers, and the color teal more than everything else. I live in New York City. I’m still figuring things out. Join me.

My Chronology

I wasn’t supposed to be around for 1980, but I managed to squeeze in 25 days. Born Dec 6, 1980 in Stamford, CT. Lived in Pound Ridge, NY.

Cried, fussed, slept, ate, dreamt, learned. Baby things.

Probably more crying and fussing. Perhaps some older brother torment? Moved to Palo Alto, CA.

Enjoyed my last year of truly blond hair. According to pictures, I gallivanted around in corduroy overalls.

Moved to Darien, CT. First pet: Brandan, the golden retriever! Nursery school at the Congregational Church. Still no active memories yet.

Started kindergarten at Tokeneke school. First memory: Being the only four year old in the lunch line.

Mommy alert!!! A poorly devised car game backfires and I “sprain” my right arm. The cartwheel the next day seals the deal - radial fracture.

Moved to Potomac, MD. Best friend Vivienne moves to Australia. First real sense of loss.

Family trip to Australia for a month at Christmastime. Koala bears and sea turtles stand out in my memory.

Cried a fair amount about getting a “C” in listening in Mrs. Yoder’s class. According to my mom she was a bitter, mean divorcee. To be honest, I probably was talking during 80% of class.

Boys! That seems to be pretty much all I cared about. Mom and I fight extensively about being allowed to go to the mall without parental supervision.

Moved (back) to Darien, CT. Don’t remember any of my previous friends so I might as well have been starting all over. Swinging from tree branches - another poorly devised game - fractured my left radius and finished out fifth grade with an awesome purple cast.

Travel soccer takes me all over CT. I decide I want to be a physicist.

I am the character “Zack’s Cell Phone” in our Saved by the Bell Club. I am thrilled because the boy I like is Zack.

Start high school at Darien High School.

Lots of adolescent angst regarding hair, pale skin, clothes, boys, etc.

I decide I want to be a veterinarian. Brandan dies in December.

Raleigh (golden retriever number two) arrives in March. Dad moves to Austin, TX for work. Mom and I stay behind in Darien for my senior year. Apply early to Dartmouth College - accepted December 12, 1997.

Graduate a high school valedictorian. After a summer in Austin, I move to Hanover, NH, start at Dartmouth and realize how amazing it is to be around like-minded intelligent people. What’s this alcohol stuff?

I discover sociology, fraternity boys, and sorority girls. It sounds pretty bad, but life is pretty good.

After four straight terms in Hanover, I flee the continent for four months studying sociology in Denmark. Copenhagen is everything I’d dreamed and more.

A real boyfriend? How unusual. A week of skiing in Vail with nights at “the Club” solidifies the friend group for senior year.

Senior spring is amazing. I’m in love and I’m excited about my career. Graduate from Dartmouth. Move to Shrewsbury, MA to start Tufts Veterinary School.

Blah blah blah. I realize I think I just liked my dogs, not actually being a veterinarian. I plan my life, hopes and dreams around a flawed relationship.

A remarkably terrible year. After two years, we call it quits. It’s lonely in the ‘burbs.

Meet exciting new boy in my basement. I develop an entirely new set of interests (hello blogosphere).

Things eventually work out and for while I’m exceedingly happy. Graduate from Tufts. Move to Manhattan for my internship at AMC. I plan my life, hopes and dreams around a flawed relationship…again.

Unceremoniously singled early on. Lose entire hard drive contents - pictures, documents, everything - the next day. Midway through the year - new job, new apartment in the fabulous West Village.

Cheddar arrives in splendid form.  I finally start to figure out how to make things happen.
