I picked up one of these Snapware GlassLock containers at Bed Bath and Beyond this past weekend and I’m already smitten. Basically it functions like tupperware except it’s a glass bowl and a silicon lid. Read: no scary plastic chemicals leeching into your food, fewer disposable tupperware containers in the landfills. The glass is heavy and durable so it doesn’t feel like it will break if you throw it your lunch bag and the seal is airtight. The container is microwave friendly and dishwasher safe and all those good things (not that I have a dishwasher!). The only downside is the price, but probably that evens out over time.
It’s amazing when I think of how advanced societies are reverting to certain things our grandmothers used to do – in my granny’s pantry in her day everything was in glass jars. They never used to throw much stuff away, conserved energy and water automatically, and re-used fabrics. Sometimes, modern is not better, and we could learn lessons from the way our ancestors used to live.
Those sound appealing. My Rubbermaid containers are beginning to wear out and I like the idea of glass and silicone instead.
I saw these at Kohls. They were 50% off, so I bought a couple to try. WOW! I liked them so much that I went back and bought more while they were still on sale. YIPPEE!! No more stinky, ugly, plasticware.
An unexpected plus – you can see everything you have stored in the frig. No more time wasted taking lids off of plasticware that you can no longer see through.
I just recently bought Snapware glass lock containers and when first washing them, I realized that soap seems to get caught behind the silicone seals. In between the seals and the plastic lid.
Is anyone else having this problem?
